Jain-A prominent ,ancient religion

Jains, though presently a minority religion in India, is known for its principled life. they are a talented and virtuous community. They have contributed much for the art, culture and Architecture in India. They are the believers in non-violence.Famous piligrimage places in India are worthy of visit to enjoy natural beauty,Art, and architecture. It also helps to understand their culture. Many Jains are living in foreign countries also and have built nice temples there.

Here is a glimpse of important Jain pilgrimage places in India

Sammed Shikharji

This is a hill range in the little state of Jharkhand in India. Formerly ,this state was a part of Bihar. There is a evergreen hill range in Giridih district of this state. Lacally, that is known as 'Parasnatha Hill'.But jains call it 'Sammeda Shikharji' It is believed that out of 24 Jain thirthankaras,20 left their mortal body here and attained solvation. Jains think it is their duty to visit this place atleast once in their lifetime. Jharkhand's highest peak is also lies on this mountain range. This mountain is 4480 feet above the sea level.

it is very pleasant to walk on this hill. Walking is the only way to visit this hill. For disabled, however, there are coolies who carry you on 'Doli' (cradle), on payment. Jains from all over the world visit this hill whenever they can. Walking is strain some. But it is equally rewarding.

Rajagriha

This is in Bihar , about 80 k.ms away from Sammed Shikharji. It is sacred both for Jains and Buddhisrs. Here Lord Mahaveera( 24th thirthankara) gave his first preaching after attaining omniscience.Buddha also gave his preachings here. This town has five hills. On the hill where delivered his preaching, a picturesque Stupa and temple are erected by Japanese Buddhist society. This 2250 feet hill has rope way. With that facility, you can reach the hill top in just 7.5 minutes.this city has many other visiting spots like- natural hot water fountain, buddha park, etc. This city was once the capital of old Magadha kingdom.

Pavapuri

This is Nalanda district in Bihar. It was here that Lord Mahaveera left his carnal body and attained Moksha. That place is now a small but beautiful temple made in White marble.Only His pootprints are there in that Temple. Around that temple, A big Lotus pond is there. It is called Jal Mandir( A temple in water.) A red sandstone bridge is there from the bank, to reach this temple. This is a sacred place for Jains.Temple gives fine look both at day and night.

Kundalapuri

This is just 13 kilometers away from Pavapuri. This also falls under Nalanda district in Bihar. This is the birth place of Lord Mahaveera.HE was born here as a prince to the local king. His birth place, that part of the palace has been excavated and preserved neatly. Rest part of the palace is not there. Now the prominent Jain nunn,Aryika Jnanamathi Mataji ,who has engaged herself in developing important holy places, has put her efforts here. AS a result, near that birth place itself, she has purchased two acres of land and constructed a holy complex. That includes simple but beautiful temples, guest houses and an exhibition builbing.Temples here have big marble statues of Lord Mahaveera and Rishabh Dev-the first thirthankara.

Champapuri

This is the outer extension of present Bhagalpur in Bihar state. In this place, another Jaina prophet-Vasupujya- who, according to Jaina tradition, was the contemporary of Sri Rama, was born, and all the main events of his life,like-birth, taking sainthood, Getting enlightenment(Kevalagnana), and finally attaining salvation-took place. A beautiful temple is erected centuries ago, in his honor. Infront of that, a park is developed, that showcases many incidents related to Jain history and Mythology. An important place to visit.

Other places

Hub stops here. But the list doesn't ends. there are many other places like -Shravanabelagola( with the largest monolithic statue of Lord Gommateshwara),Humcha(Hombuja), etc. Each place mentioned here has so much to say that it needs a seperate hub for each. But,I hope this hub gives the gist of the best.

Ranakpur Jain temple

Hereunder,i have added added a video clipping related to Famous Jain temple at Ranakpur village in Rajasthan,India. It is a magnificent temple in White marble, built with the strain for 50 long years.
