Man-made marvels
Construction technology in recent years has surpassed all imaginations. It has proved that, if man minds, he can do wonders. Various bridges constructed in different parts of the world provide evidence for this achievement. This hub introduces you certain such bridges, which increase our confidence about our engineering skill.
1. EXPRESS WAY OF BANGKONGK: Longest bridge in the world..Length-54 k.ms.Width-29mts.This is a six-path elevated highway. Construction started in 1998 and surprisingly, it was completed in 2000 May. This is in Bangkongk.
2. DONGHOIBRIDGE: ::It is in China. It is built across the sea. Length-32.5 k.ms .Longest bridge in Asia and longest sea –bridge in the world. It is open for use since Dec 10, 2005. It connects Shanghai mainland and Yang son . Is lifted by cables and enabled for ships to pass below this.
3. KINGFAHDCAUSEWAYBRIDGE: It connects Behrens and Saudi Arabia. Construction started in 1968 and completed in 1986.Cost -$120 crores.47,000 metric tones of concrete was used.Length-28 k.ms.width-23.5 meters(75 feet). Most attractive to look at.
4 PENANG BRIDGE: Built across Penang and Seberan in Malaysia. Total length 13.5 k.ms.Open for use in 1985.It is a four-track bridge.
5. VASCO-DA-GAMABRIDGE :In Portugal. Built across a river.Length-17.2k.ms.Most part of the bridge is based on cables Longest bridge in Europe. It also connects some parts of Lisbon. Open for traffic since May 29, 1998.It is named so, to commemorate 500th year of Vasco-da- Gama’s discovery of sea-route to India through Europe. It has a six-track path on it and vehicles can at a speed of 120 k.ms per hour.3300 have worked for 3 years to create this bridge.its life is estimated as 120 years.

Very nice exposure, I like to share with you Jain sir, that many wonders have been completed in Bangkok. A crowded chaotic City had been shaped into a superb City. Sir, I have written an article” Bangkok, the Venice of East” but we, the Indians could not make Mumbai up to the mark. Thanks.
Thanks prasadjain for a nice hub. There is need for such bridges as traffic is increasing.
Another wonderful bridge, Si Du River Bridge (Hubei, China) is fast progressing. It would surpass all other bridges because of its height.
Very interesting and informative Hub! These are standing as evidences for the development in modern technology. All the photos of bridges are really superb!
Amazing pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the hub. My sister drove me on the Penang bridge in 1997 when I returned to Malaysia from Toronto. Had a good time. It was quite interesting as the last time I went to Penang was by ferry. Nostalgia!

They are amazing! The highest one I've seen -more than 300 metres- is the Millau Viaduct in France, it is an enormous cable-stayed road-bridge.
