Tiger-about to extinct
Tiger census in India is just over.Results are worrying. In spite of Government's effort to save this majestic species, number of tigers in India is not satisfying. Even though the 'World Wildlife Foundation',in its previous report, has stated that 2500 tigers live in India,recent census shows that there are only about 1000 tigers in Indian Wildlife sanctuaries.
SHARP FALL IN NUMBER OF TIGERS
The fall in the number of tigers is very sharp and steep.In the beginning of 20th century, India had50,000 tigers. In about 2004 A.D. According to wildlife Foundation,there were 2500 tigers.In2002, 3500 tigers were there in India.The recent census , it is only 1000.What a fast deterioration in number!
This fall has taken place in spite of 'project Tiger' and 'Save the tiger' projects, supported by Indian government and UNO funding
But one pleasant note is out in April 2011.In Karnataka number of tigers has risen in 2011 March census.Now it has highest number of tigers in India
TIGER SANCTURIES
In India,16 states have tiger sancturies.But among all these, karnataka has provided better facilities for tigers and here the tigers are better protected from hunters than in other states.This state has four tiger sancturies-Bandipur, Nagarahole,Bhadra, and Anashi-Dandeli sancturies.According to recent census, Karnataka has 250 tigers in these four sancturies, 25% of total tiger population in India.
Tigers-different species
In India, different species of tigers are found-Bengal Tiger,White tiger etc. In other parts of the world some other species like-Siberian tigers, are found.White tiger is not actually a different species, but a result of an occidental genetic change, that rarely occurs.But common people people recognise it as a different kind of the species.
The reason for the vanishing of tigers are many. They are hunted for their skin and nails;forest area is decreasing. Every tiger needs about 100 sq.k.ms of thick forest area to live comfortably. But that is not available.Thirdly-their preys are also decreasing in number. ( In India, only deers and cattle are their food.Giraffe are not available here.)Because of these reasons, tigers are on the verge of extinction.
If forests are not conserved, this majestic species will soon become extinct.

In India , The government launched a project to save tigers in India using nationalized tiger sanctuaries and parks ( Project Tiger )
Thanks to both of you. Yes, its true that, 'Project Tiger' is being implemented in India. but, the hunters' hands are not yet stopped. Our forest guard stsff is not very well equipped with sophisticates amunitions to fight against such hunters. Not even so much staff is there.
I was born in the year of the tiger, according to the eto (Chinese Zodiac). So I was very interested in your article, since I identify deeply with the majestic tiger, although of course your article's topic is a big concern. I am glad to hear of "Project Tiger."

Don't make the same mistake as so many others. The white tiger is not a species of tiger. It is just a normal indian tiger. The white is caused from a recessive gene that causes this abnormality to occur. They are not good at all!. It used to accut once every 12000 births or so, back when there were about 70000 tigers in india. The last recorded case was in the mid fifties. This male was bred with a "normal", they had three girls. The white male was then bred with his daughters. Now we get massive deformities within the captive white tigers as a result of all the inbreeding. Not good! Any facility that tells you they are breeding endangered white tigers are lying, and are certainly not a conservation society.

I know that white color of the tiger is due to a sudden change that rarely occurs in tiger, and inheritance of that character occurs at great intervals. But in common language that comes to be recognised as a saperate kind. Hence I had mentioned it like that. Now you can notice that i have made a change in that point.
